Best Dressed: Oscars 2014

oscars 2014 best dressed

  1. Lupita Nyong’o in Prada: The accessories really makes this dress! I love the simplicity yet elegance and femininity of the dress paired with her sparkly headband and earrings. This is red carpet dressing at its best.
  2. Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive: Cate was a close second in this perfect Armani dress. I love the shape, the sparkly paillets and the illusion netting. No one can pull off this colour as well as Cate can. Her perect makeup and hair really add to this dress-which I suspect will serve as many wedding dress shoppers’ inspiration.
  3. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture: She was the best dressed in colour- read other than white and light- and she rocked it. This is one of my favourite colours and the silhouette is really flattering on her. I just wish she would have styled her hair a bit differently.
  4. Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli: Flawless makeup, beautiful jewellery and a princess dress is what makes this one of my favourite looks this year. I am not the biggest fan of the fishtail but it all is so very pretty so I don’t really notice it.
  5. Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra: Pretty, white/silver dresses ruled this red carpet and Jenna was one of the best.
  6. Penelope Cruz in Giambattista Valli: I love the ballet inspired look with the ballerina pink and bun defined by the black bow. The drapery makes what could be a little too tweenster look age appropriate. I love that she played up the pretty instead of the sex appeal.
  7. Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection: Naomi always looks so good in CK and I love her geometric clutch and bold lip. She might be wearing the trend of the evening but simple styling differentiates her from the rest.
  8. Margot Robbie in Saint Lauren: From the front she looked beautiful in what appeared to be a sleek, minimalist dress but that bow from the back proves else wise. The classic sideswept curls really enhance this look and I am so glad she didn’t opt for an up-do.
  9. Julia Roberts in Givenchy: Julia Roberts looks beautiful in black lace with a peplum effect. She also opted to cover her cleavage with a piece of lace, making the dress age appropriate and placing the focus on her natural beauty.
  10. Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn: I love the detail on her dress and the emerald earrings to firmly differentiate her white dress from the sea of others.

Who was your best dressed last night? For me it really is a toss up between Cate and Lupita. Are you surprised that Leonardo missed out on the award AGAIN?

Best Dressed at 2013 Golden Globes

1. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsWhilst I also liked Zooey’s red strapless dress, I think Jennifer did a better job in accessorizing it. Hers felt more modern and flattering and I simply love the belt. I wish she would have more Red Carpet moments like this one!

2. Amy Adams in Marchesca

AMy AdamsThere was nothing not to love about this Marchesca gown except for the fact that it felt more wedding appropriate than Awards Ceremony. The dress was dreamy and showcased the best in atelier craftsmanship with the perfect balance between sexiness and pretty. I also liked the accentuated waist as it is extremely flattering. The perfect fit and beautiful detailing on this dress will make is very memorable.

3. Alicia Vikander in Chanel

Alicia Vikander in ChanelI don’t know why this newcomer isn’t on more best dressed lists, but I find her to be the best dressed of all the ladies in white. Her look is youthful and fun, but stylish at the same time. This is Chanel confectionery at its finest and what I believe Karl does best. Her simple hairstyle and natural make-up are the perfect foil for this gown that manages to look both intricate and simple.

4. Ariel Winter in Valentino

Ariel Winter in ValentinoI have to admit this dress didn’t wow me when I first saw it in the lookbook and I would not have imagined that it could work so well for an Awards Ceremony, but on the right person…WOW! This is how the youth should be dressing! She was comfortable, beautiful and the dress is totally age appropriate. The accessories lift this dress and the gorgeous colours is amazing against the sea of neutrals. I must get me a pair of sparkly pointy toes!

5. Emily Deschanel in Badgley Mischka

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsIt was a draw between her and Olivia Munn, but Emily’s smile and perfect make-up made her the winner. I have always loved a black dress with turquoise stone combo since I first saw it years ago on a Ralph Lauren runway and I have loved it ever since! It is such a fresh alternative to diamonds and sparkle. It isn’t as apparent from this angle, but her shoulders are embellished with tiny silver and turquoise beads. Emily pulls off this no-fuss look with great success!
