My favourite home decor trends

Being a lover of all things classic, I typically find myself swooning at things like moulding, velvets and shaker styles when it comes to home interiors. Every now and again I do however find myself taking notice of newer trends, and following last year’s round up of my favourite trends I thought it would be a fun idea to see what tickles my fancy this time around.

Although I still love round mirrors, my love for indigo blues has waned and I now prefer a different shade of cerulean.

Painterly Prints

My inner artist (the one who can’t draw) just loves these watercolor and oil paint patterns so much. I managed to track down the last print from local supplier ROMO which sadly means that it is out of my budget – but I won’t give up. Whether you choose to go traditional on the wall or simply want to add a pop of colour and comfort in the shape of scatters, this is one easy trend to incorporate.

Sleek Metal Frames

The first time I saw this West Elm beauty of a blush dream with its sleek frame was in Vanessa Francis’ One Room Challenge bedroom makeover. It was love at first sight, so I was just as happy when I saw that @Home has created something similar in dark leather and copper. I also really liek the sleek lines of the console table and bookshelf against a white backdrop – moulding not required!

Just imagine lounging on that beautiful denim-blue velvet couch! I have been loving this beautiful denim shade for quite a while so when Dulux recently announced their 2017 Colour of the Year is Denim Drift I really jumped with joy. As seen from the similar colours above, this versatile shade feels just as at home in a classic bedroom as in a mid-century living room. It really is a colour for everyone.

Also visible in the bedroom image is a neutral blush-grey which also ties in to Plascon’s Colour of the Year for 2017, “In the Mood”. I think what we are seeing is more “user-friendly” versions of Pantone’s Colour(s) of the for 2016, Rose Quarts and Serenity, which just goes to show that grey is the one colour that never goes out of fashion!

Which of these trends are you welcoming this year? Anything else you’re saving a special spot for?
