I’ve loved rounding up this Valentine’s day gift guide because I feel like I can really indulge in my love of blush pink without any shame! Most of the gift are fairly simple – I say save the big ticket items for anniversaries and birthdays – but their just kind of token of appreciation I’d appreciate. I hope that there is something in here for you too!
The festive season is such an easy time to go overboard with your beauty look, and if you want to you certainly should! But over the years I’ve often found myself feeling slightly OTT. Family dinners, braais with friends or a board games evening rarely justify a perfect red pout and golden eyes. This time around I feel less certainly is more.
I love my LA Girl The Nudes palette as all the colours are right up my street. I rarely go for the extreme eye looks preferring to use one or two shades at a time. This time around I just blended the golden shimmer close to my lashes, loaded up on tonnes of mascara and added a little bit of festive colour to my pout with a Revlon Super lustrious lipgloss.
Nails is where I go all out. I love the Essence Gel Nailpolish in Nr 14 Do you speak love? It is a lovely vampy red, probably not summer appropriate but I love it anyways! I then covered it in one layer of Wet n Wild’s Waiting for my solo. It is a warm golden-coppery glitter that has both small and chunky pieces. I applied this combo in the car a week ago for my husband’s year end work function and although it wasn’t perfect it lasted a whole week with minimal tip wear! I was so impressed that I repeated the look today.
What is your go-to beauty look for Christmas parties? Do you go all out or prefer a more relaxed approach?
This past weekend we decided to head to Stellenbosch for one of the best birthday dinners I have ever had at the Hussar Grill. I digress, but you’ve got to try their Truffle Mushroom Fillet as it is the best I’ve ever had.
As it was a particularly chilly evening I reached for my trusty grey Melton coat and a pair of skinny cords, but incorporated a few old favourites to jazz it up a bit. A classic bag like this leather quilted one and dressy shoes instantly add a touch of sophistication. I just finished it with a red lip and silk blouse and felt like a real Parisienne (minus the stripes and baguette).
The Disney girls did it first when Bella Thorne and Debby Ryan both added a red tint to their natural hair colours. Ariel Winter followed suit, before going blonde, and then a slew of other celebs jumped on the bandwagon. The trick is to just a red or copper tint to your natural hair colour to warm it up. As with going lighter, this is best left to the professionals to help decide whether this look will suit your skin tone. If you want to try this at home, stick to non-permanent formulas with the words “golden” or “auburn” for the tiniest hint of red before committing to this trend. This look is perfect for trying during the colder months as it looks amazing paired with a darker wardrobe. Will you dare to take the plunge?
