DIY: Gift Cards and Gift Tags

It might not be Christmas season yet, but the gift-giving season sure has arrived. With all the weddings, Kitchen Teas and Baby showers there are a lot of cards or gift tags to be made- depending on your preference.

I love making DIY cards as they are easy, cost effective and much more personal than just any shop bought card. Here are two cards I made recently.

I recently bought me a glue-pen from the craft shop, and it is the best tool I’ve bought yet. As you can see it is great when used with glitter. You can even write someone’s name or a cute message. I have to add though that I bought the thicker pen, which means that I can’t create a very delicate design, but I like the boldness of the pen.

Here are a few must haves for card making!

  1. Glitter Alphabet Letters
  2. Washi Tape- can spruce up any old gift tag
  3. Gross Grain Ribbons- To add colour and attach gift tag
  4. Glitter in all shapes and colours
  5. Quality card stock- Should be textured and thick
  6. Metallic Pens
  7. ZIG Glue Pen

Do share any ideas and must haves of yours. Happy card making!

Winter trend forecast: Aubergine and Burgundy

These colours will be a big trend this coming winter. I found  the need to differentiate between them as I see they are frequently incorrectly used as interchangeable names for one colour.

These colours look great when paired with grey and black. I am so looking forward to incorporating aubergine in my winter wardrobe! As for maroon, well my school uniform was maroon…

What do you think? Will you be incorporating any of these colours in your wardrobe?

Cute Glittery Find

I love browsing the inter-webs in search of cute clothes, although  I rarely buy as I am still not used to buying without having the luxury of trying on and touching before hand. This Zando dress is so cute that I may have to reconsider my stance on online shopping! Plus it is supposedly super easy to do returns.

What do you think? Isn’t it perfect for the party season ahead?

5 Last Minute Halloween Outfits

Here are a few simple last-minute Halloween outfit ideas that you can create with what you already own. No costume required!

1. Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Wear a classic LBD with a lot of bling and Ray Ban wayfarers. Finish the look with a classic bun, long gloves and cat-eyeliner.

Yes this look might be boring and a little predictable, but at least you can feel pretty and it won’t break the bank.

2. Gossip Girl : Blair and Serena

Get your best friend in on the deal and dress-up as best friends, Blair and Serena. Whether you choose to go with the schoolgirl look or the college years, there are certain key points to get their look.

Blair is always lady-like and fully co-ordinated. This means you have to match! The key that will get you identified is the signature hair and hairband. Make sure you have perfect, big curls with a lot of volume. Finish the look with a pink lip-gloss.

Serena on the other hand is more bohemian, wearing leather jackets and jeans. Just remember that she is daring and always shows either cleavage or legs. Finish the look with her perfectly disheveled curls and high heels.

3. Coco Gabrielle Chanel

Dress like the famous designer by combining a few classic Chanel looks. If you have a tweed suit or jacket now is the time to wear it. Otherwise wear wide-leg black trousers or a black pencil skirt with a classic striped shirt. Stack on the pearl necklaces, wear black ballet flats and a quilted bag. Finish the look with red lipstick and Chanel No. 5.

4. Jackie O

Channel the famous First Wive’s style by wearing one of this season’s fit-and-flare 50’s style dresses, preferably in a ladylike colour. Finish the look with kitten-heels, pearl necklaces, white gloves and a pink lip. Add the classic Jackie O style oversize sunglasses to ensure that your look stays true to her.

5. The Duchess of Cambridge

Dress like your favourite royal with a fitted feminine dress and plain accessories, preferably in a nude colour. If you can, copy her signature nude LK Bennet heels and the engagement ring. The hairstyle is the most important factor for pulling off the look. Get a sleek blow dry and add bouncy curls to the ends with a large-barrel curling tong. Finish the look by lining your eyes and add a nude lip-gloss. A fascinator is optional!

So do you have any other Halloween costume ideas using what you already own?

Summer Beauty Essentials

1. The Body Shop Strawberry Body Polish (R99):  This leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized to create the perfect canvass for your tan, whether real or fake. This product also smell good enough to eat.

2. Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturiser (R80): For me a moisturizer with an SPF is an essential and this one is perfect. It is  absorbed quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished.

3. Clinique Blush in Precious Peony(R250): I prefer to skip the bronzer and just add a brighter, more vibrant sheer version of my winter blusher in the summer. This pretty colour instantly brightens my skin whilst the fact that it is sheer makes it easier to apply.

4. Essence Lash & Brow Gel (R30): This is one of those products I can’t live without as I have bushy, unruly brows. With a single swipe of brow gel I can easily create perfectly styled brows with a slight sheen. The best part of it is that it keeps my brows in place.

5. Essie Canyon Coral (R99): Nail trends come and go, but I find that season after season I am constantly drawn to shades of coral. Essie creates the best variety with great quality to boot. This season’s favourite is a pink-red coral that is slightly lumo.

6. Chanel Chance eu Tendre: I find that in the summer months I often forgo perfume as it can be overpowering combined with all the other scented products I use. When I do however decide to wear a fragrance, this one is my summer go to. It is a clean, sweet and innocent floral that is exactly how I wish I smelt after a bath. It is fun and flirty whilst light enough not to be overpowering.

7. Tresemme Naturals Sweet Orange Shampoo (R75): I have been in hair heaven ever since I discovered this shampoo. Lower sulfate levels means that it isn’t as harsh at cleansing as others might be. It leaves my hair feeling soft, strong and clean. The amazing smell is a bonus as it lingers in your bathroom!

8. Dove Summer Glow for Fair to Medium Skin (R34): My skin is rather fair, so I find it difficult to find a self tan that doesn’t leave me orange. This one is perfect for use at the beginning of the season and it is also great for making your natural tan last. I cheat a bit and apply this over my slight natural tan to intensify the look without all the risk factors of extra hours in the sun.

9. Nivea Sun Screen Light Feeling SPF 30 (R90): AS I mentioned above, I’ve got pale dry skin. So a few minutes in the sun can transform me into a lobster. I always wear an SPF of at least 30 when I know that I will be spending time outdoors. This one from Nivea is one of the more affordable ranges that is widely available and it isn’t as greasy as some of the others I’ve used.

10. Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry (R205): During the peak of summer I tend to skip foundation and all other forms of make-up. All I need is a slick of sheer colour and this year Clinique’s Chubby Sticks will be replacing my trusted Strawberry Labello. It has all of the moisture with more colour whilst still feeling sheer. With such a delicious range of colours to choose from, it was difficult picking just one.

What to Wear: The Formal Evening Wedding

Here is the final installment of my series of what to wear to a wedding. As you can tell, formal evening weddings are by far my favourite! This is a proper dress-up opportunity. Formal evening weddings are usually held indoors and include dinner and dance. Naturally a dress that allows for easy movement  is required. Here I show you how to style four different looks.

Please comment if you are attending an event and want tips to know what to wear. I would love to help!

Get the look for less: Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012

The 2012 Spring/Summer collection of Louis Vuitton could easily be credited as the inspiration for this summer’s obsession with lace and pastels. I couldn’t resist doing a break down on how to get the look with so many clothes in stores that are clearly drawing on inspiration from the show.

How to get the look:

-Use white as your base colour and add small details in pastels. Yellow, mint, seafoam, pink and salmon were used on the runway. Alternatively you can go all out with one of these colours.

-Incorporate eyelet fabrics and feather details into your outfit.

-Add dainty hairpieces in silver and cap-toed heels as accessories.

-Finish the look with big bold lashes and a soft pink lip gloss.

What to Wear: The Casual Day Wedding

Some day weddings can seem more casual than others, depending on the theme, the venue and the time. These type of weddings call for a more relaxed style, whilst still showing respect for the occasion through small details.

This look would work very well for an outside barbecue or an Al Fresco affair in the afternoon. The bright colour paired down with the natural tones and weaves are perfect for summer. Add modern gold jewellery to finish the look.Take your opportunity to play with the latest trends. Simply take your pick: 50’s, pastels or lace. Why not combine all for a completely cute look that is sure to draw attention for all the right reasons.
Why not make like Catherine, Duchess of Camebridge, and go fashion literal. A beach wedding is the perfect opportunity to try the latest runway trend inspired by the ocean. Turquoise, seafoam and teal is the perfect colour combination.

PS : Remember to always wear flats, blocked heels or wedges to weddings taking place outside. There is nothing as unsophisticated as someone who doesn’t know when to abandon her stilettos.

Get the Look for Less: Taylor Swift in Red French Connection

Taylor Swift rocked this red lace dress from French Connection last week. The dress was celebrated mostly because of its affordability and accessibility to the masses. Whilst South Africans can get the brand at Stuttafords, I doubt that it would be as affordable as we wish. So luckily I found a very affordable alternative in summer friendly coral-red. This Mr Price variant also features the cute 3/4 sleeve and a-line skirt. Exchange the bright red lip for a summer-appropriate coral-red, add dainty jewellery and a pair of nude heels and you’re ready!

New Shop: Typo

Give me a stationery store with a love for all things pink and glitter and I am happy! Typo, being the latest of a slew of Australian stores to hit our malls, offers us the simple aesthetic of Australian design with a spin of hipster style in the form of stationery and home accessories.

They have the cutest mugs and flasks!

I love their cute gift wrap and card selection! Notepads are certainly one of their specialties  with a large section of the store dedicated to them. Sure they are a bit pricey, but this one’s paper can be replaced when it is empty. I am also lusting after the golden mail holder. Whose office space can’t do with a bit of bling?

I also adore the cute tablet, laptop and celphone covers they have. Not all their products are geared towards Apple users, so Samsung girls can also indulge in a little bit of glitter.

They now have stand-alone stores in both Canal Walk and Tygervalley Centre in the Western Cape.
