The Christmas Gift Guide

Woohoo it is time to start shopping for all your loved ones! I love the process of searching, buying, gift wrapping and then finally giving someone their gift. Although my biggest weekness is keeping quiet once I’ve bought something! I hope that my gift recommendations might spark an idea and help you find that perfect something for someone else, or yourself. Because who said you can’t buy something from Santa to you?

  1. If Garance Dore’s book is anything like her blog, I’m sure most will love it. Beautiful photographs paired with her sense of humour is a winning combo!
  2. Salad servers might not be high on everyone’s list, but these hammered copper beauties from Woolies will be.
  3. These playful golden polka dot mugs are perfect for a festive warm cuppa!
  4. If you loved Gal Meets Glam’s Baublebar collection, you’ll be happy to see that @Home has a very similar jewellery stand at a fraction of the price.
  5. Guys who love to play mixologists will appreciate a metal shaker and girls will love it for it’s class.
  6. If there is one recipe book that everyone’s mentioned this year, it is Deliciously Ella. Perfect for health freaks and great for those looking to enjoy slightly healthier meals.
  7. A denim shirt is timeless and this one is a steal from Mr Price.
  8. Trinket boxes don’t get much cuter than this one.
  9. Stripes look good on everyone, including on mens swimwear
  10. A marble cheeseboard that doesn’t cost a fortune! Great for lovely hostesses.
  11. Giving art might be a little personal, but if you know the person well enough these prints from Superbalist are amazing value (starting from only R80!), come in various designs for every style and you can even choose to frame it!
  12. Every man needs a good weekender bag. It doesn’t have to be leather, designer or super expensive. Woolworth’s W Studio and some luggage stores have more cost-effective alternatives.

For those of you who don’t already know, I got married last weekend! The wedding was everything we hoped for and I look forward to share a few details with you soon, but in the meanwhile this will have to do. I’ve also got a few blog posts planned so I look forward to returning to a regular blogging schedule (as regular as it will ever be) soon. Hope everyone has an amazing start to the week (read: loads of coffee!).

It’s our birthday!

image

Yesterday we officially left the terrible two’s behind and I am so happy to say that my little corner of the world has been around for three whole years!

I began as a very shy blogger who simply wanted to share things I love with whoever might enjoy it. Today I am a lot more confident and happy with not only what I do but who I am and those whom I share it with.

May Favourites

May used to be one of my favourite months, but in recent years it has lost some of its allure to me. Turning a year older lost its sparkle, my favourite magazines became too expensive and the weather is dreary. But I am determined to enjoy this coming month. I turn 26th on the 19th of May, I have a work conference which might be fun and hopefully my fiance will bring back a few interesting things from his trip to the US.

Besides this, I am excited about tulip season which usually starts around this time of the year. We all know that April showers brings May flowers! I hope that we’ll get a dining table on which I could put a few vases soon. The empty living room is starting to get to me, but I don’t want to make a rash decision which we might regret. Does anyone know where I can find a dining table similar to the one above?

As the weather cools (we just had our first rainy evening) I’m really starting to crave comfort food and this one-pan chicken hits the spot. Whilst we are on the topic of cooking and the kitchen, I really look forward to finishing the kitchen – as in to buy everything we need. I am so sick of starting with something only to realise that I don’t have all the necessary tools. I think we are close, but not entirely there yet. I’d like to celebrate this with a nice utensil holder.

I’d also like to start putting up some are in the living room. We are planning on printing a few pictures from our Italy trip, but I really like this DIY Grey Malin-inspired print idea for creating an impact.

Finally, I am finishing this with boater hats (call me obessed!), a happy chocolate cake (which I wouldn’t mind digging in to) and an irresistable jewelled headband that Blair would approve of.

So happy May to all of you! What are you looking forward to this May?

What’s in my handbag

100_7886editedHi there! Today I’m sharing the content of my handbag in a bid to show you how I keep my handbag organized with all the essentials in it, without ever carrying too heavy.

  1. Sunglasses Pouch & Sunglasses: I made this DIY sunglasses pouch out of necessity and these is my sunglasses of choice. They never tangle in my hair!
  2. Lindt Chocolates: Somehow I manage to collect these little Lindt babies from my visits to Cafe Vida. They are great for snacking when you’re peckish but my personal favourite use for them is to try and replicate Vida’s legendary chocolate quente’s at home.
  3. Swiss Army Knife:  I got mine from my father and whilst I haven’t gotten much use of it yet, each time I have used it I’ve been incredibly thankful that I’ve got it.
  4. Essence Match2Cover: This is a great all-round concealer, perfect for covering blemishes or minor discoloration. It’s also incredibly affordable, so it won’t be the end of the world if I loose it or it gets damaged.
  5. Purse: This one was actually a Christmas present and it’s my favourite by far. I even use it for the occasional milk and bread run sans handbag.
  6. Lipglosses & Lipsticks: I love affordable makeup, but when the quality is also great you have to stock up! This is the case with Essence Lipglosses and I’ve been trying their Long Lasting Lipstick as well. I’ve also been loving the Revlon Colorstay range.
  7. Hairbands & Bobby pins: You never know when you might need one or a few of these for pesky fly-aways, broken hairbands or just windy days.
  8. Business cards: I keep a business cards from my favourite hairdresser, doctor and dentist on hand so that I can always refer someone and have the necessary details on hand. Keeping it organised and neat is very important.
  9. Pouch: This really is the key to my handbag organisation. I store all the tiny essentials in there like my tiny 8 Hour Cream (perfect for chapped lips, dry cuticles and minor cuts or burns), a comb, compact mirror, tissues and a miniature fragrance. When I want to change bags I simply toss this in along with the rest.
  10. Not pictured is my mobile phone which I obviously also carry everywhere with me.

What do you carry in your bag that you can’t live without?

Signature Scent

100_8108When I was a little girl my mom wore Ralph Lauren’s Safari almost every single day. I though this was the pinnacle of being a grown up along wearing Estee Lauder lipstick. I still covet  the classic gold bullet beauty wise!

I remember early on learning that I don’t want to wear my fragrance every single day. I save mine for special occasions such as date night and parties with friends or simply when my spirits needs a lift. Besides perfume is a precious elixir that captures memories in scent. I want to use my scents to remember things that make me happy.

I still clearly remember the excitement around my first fragrance. It was a small Tommy Hillfiger Girl, and all the girls in my high school wore it, so it definitely wasn’t unique. I liked the fact that it smelt clean and fresh and made me feel sophisticated.

I followed this up with Ralph Lauren’s Ralph on a overseas trip. That was the first fruity-floral fragrance I liked and it still one of my favourite scents. I love the fact that whenever I catch a whiff of something similar I feel like I’m sixteen all over again, looking forward to a milkshake dates at the mall, the latest Teen Vogue and my trip to freezing cold London. I can still feel the excitement!

Right before I started University my mother gave me my current scent, Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie. It is the ultimate in sophistication and it smells so feminine. It has still got that hint of a fruitiness but is essentially a fresh floral. The notes include things such as caramel popcorn and strawberries which really just sounds (and smells) delicious.

I have been eyeing Chanel’s Chance eau Tendre and plan on making this my next fragrance as soon as I finish my Miss Dior. I choose to never buy the same fragrance in succession as I want each chapter in my life to have its own scent. That way I can always revisit a specific period in my life by simply visiting the beauty counter. What fragrance do you currently use and how often do you wear it? Do you believe in signature scents?

A few of my other favourite scents:
